Ride Lasso Snowboard Boots Review
Many Boa designs take a dual-zone approach where the tongue Boa tightens the upper zone of the boot and the side Boa tightens the lower portion of the boot. The limitation with this design is that you don’t have direct control from the outside of the boot to pull your ankle directly down into the heel of the boot.
Most dual-zone Boa designs utilize an internal lacing system to help with heel hold, but this is not accessible without opening up your boot.
The Ride BOA Closure System (Tongue Tied) on the Lasso has a rope that is connected to the tongue right over your ankle. The result is as you tighten the dial on the outside of the boot it pulls your ankle right down into the heel.
This design provides the convenience of being able to adjust the heel hold on the fly.
For example, you have the option to really tighten up that heel hold at the top of the run. Then when you get to the bottom or decide to take a break you can loosen it to give your foot better circulation without opening up your boot.
Of course, the trade-off is that you can’t adjust the upper and lower zones of the boot independently. The tongue BOA works to tighten the ropes across the entire tongue. But to help get even pressure the Lasso utilizes molded plastic pieces attached along the tongue to support the ropes and distribute the pressure more evenly.
In contrast, many other BOA designs have the ropes running directly across the tongue which can be a little more difficult to get even pressure across the whole tongue.
At first glance, the liner appears to have a rather basic lacing system, but one of the nice features is the closure mechanism actually clips to a piece of molded plastic attached to the tongue. This supports the closure as you pull the cord and helps get the lacing system tight.
Drawbacks (but not deal breakers)
One thing to keep in mind with this boot is that the Lasso has a rather basic footbed. It’s perfectly capable of getting the job done for most riders. But if you need extra arch support you should consider an aftermarket insert.
